Pedro Matos
It all started in the summer of 2017, during the Tenso Europe Chamber Choir's summer school, in Croatia. This project aimed to unite young professional singers from all over Europe. I was there as a singer and during the two weeks of intensive rehearsals, the conductor Kaspars Putniņš invited me to guide a beatbox workshop for all the singers. In the end, I composed a small piece of music with the different techniques and sounds learned.
This piece was based on a small harmonic excerpt of Poulenc's Mass in Gmajor:
After this experience I developed a workshop format divided in several learning steps:
-
unvoiced percussive beatbox
-
voiced beatbox sounds
-
expanded singing techniques
-
instrument imitation
-
improvisation patterns
-
application on an existing piece of music and creative alterations
